Our Mission & Philosophy
WorldTimeBase was created to solve a persistent frustration with modern web utilities: bloated interfaces loaded with invasive trackers, intrusive cookie banners, slow server round-trips, and outdated daylight saving rules.
We believe fundamental daily calculations—such as checking the time across international offices, coordinating time zones for remote teams, or calculating working days—should be instantaneous, mathematically precise, and completely private.
Algorithmic Precision & Standards
Every calculation on WorldTimeBase is computed directly in your browser using standardized astronomical and temporal algorithms:
⚡ Native ECMAScript Intl Engine
We leverage the browser's native Intl.DateTimeFormat API backed by the official IANA Time Zone Database (tzdb). This guarantees precise regional daylight saving transitions without relying on brittle third-party date libraries.
☀️ NOAA Solar Ephemeris Algorithms
Our sunrise, sunset, dawn, dusk, and day/night terminator boundaries are computed using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) solar equations, offering sub-minute solar accuracy for any latitude and longitude.
🌙 Jean Meeus Lunar Ephemeris
Lunar phases, illumination percentages, and lunar cycles are calculated mathematically using principles from Jean Meeus' Astronomical Algorithms, running in real-time with zero external server requests.
📱 Offline-First PWA Capabilities
With lightweight service-worker caching, WorldTimeBase functions seamlessly even when disconnected from the internet. Calculators, converters, and clocks remain fully responsive on flights and during transit.
Zero-Tracking Privacy Guarantee
Privacy is not an afterthought at WorldTimeBase—it is our primary architectural constraint:
- Zero Server Uploads: Your search terms, converted cities, meeting participants, and dates never leave your device.
- Zero Tracking Cookies: We do not set advertising cookies, behavioral pixels, or analytics trackers.
- Local Preference Storage: Pinned cities, favorite clocks, and theme settings are saved strictly in your device's browser
localStorage. - Permission Transparency: Geolocation is requested solely on-demand to center local sunrise/sunset and is never transmitted to any remote server.
Continuous Improvement & Contact
Time zones and daylight saving schedules are dynamic, with governments changing regional offset rules annually. We actively monitor IANA updates to ensure continuous accuracy.
